For linear retrieves or traction fishing, a jig head matched to a paddle tail shad helps keep the lure stable and control depth. For vertical fishing, weight choice is critical to stay in contact without killing the lure action. Weedless Texas-style heads are useful around weed beds, branches, rocks and snaggy areas.
