Panther Martin is best known for its in-line spinners, a lure design built around a blade mounted directly on the wire shaft rather than on a separate clevis. The brand introduced this shaft-through-blade concept in the United States in 1958 and it remains the defining feature of the classic Panther Martin spinner. The convex/concave blade starts rotating quickly and creates flash and vibration even at relatively slow retrieve speeds. Combined with a weighted body, this makes Panther Martin spinners useful in streams, rivers and lakes where anglers need a lure that can begin working immediately after landing and can be kept lower in the water when required. Trout are the species most closely associated with Panther Martin, but the range is also used for other freshwater predators and gamefish. Model and size choice should therefore be based on water depth, current, target size and tackle rather than assuming one spinner fits every situation. Small sizes are better suited to light trout tackle and shallow streams, while larger and heavier versions provide more casting distance and depth in bigger rivers or lakes.
