The Chatterbaits category brings together vibrating bladed jigs designed to create strong vibration, flash and an erratic action. They are useful for covering water, triggering active fish and fishing close to grass, wood, rocks and edges.

A chatterbait is often fished with a soft trailer such as a compact shad, craw, creature bait, grub or finesse bait. The trailer changes volume, vibration, profile and fall speed. A shad adds rolling and a stable action; a craw or creature bait gives more bulk and a strong profile for black bass.

The blade creates a vibration that is different from a spinnerbait. It gives strong feedback through the rod, helps keep contact with the lure and can trigger reaction bites from pike, black bass, perch or zander, especially in stained water or when fish respond to sound and water displacement.

To choose well, consider weight, hook size, head shape, skirt density, colour and the trailer you plan to use. Vary retrieve speed, pauses and contact with cover to find the trigger.
