Swimbait

Swimbaits are lures designed to push water, create a realistic swimming action and target predators willing to attack a larger meal. They can be hard or soft, jointed or single-piece, floating, slow sinking or sinking, with very different uses depending on depth, retrieve speed and the target species.

For pike, a swimbait helps select active or following fish, especially along margins, above weed beds, on drop-offs or around structure. For bass, it can be used both as a reaction bait and as a slow presentation around precise targets. In saltwater or large lakes, denser models help cover more water while keeping better contact with the lure.

Choosing the right swimbait comes down to four key points: size, weight, density and swimming depth. A shallow or floating model works better over cover. A slow sinking swimbait stays longer in the strike zone. A sinking model reaches depth faster and is better suited to deeper areas or slow retrieves.
