Braid

Braided fishing line for predators, lure fishing and saltwater

Choose your braided fishing line according to diameter, breaking strain, strand count and use: fine PE braid for perch, zander or eging, 8-strand braid for smoother casting and distance, stronger braid for traction, jerkbait, popper, pike, saltwater or large predators.

This category brings together PE braids for lure fishing in freshwater and saltwater. Models differ by strand count, lb rating, diameter or PE size, colour, spool length and casting behaviour.

How to choose a fishing braid

The first point is the balance between diameter, strength and technique. A very thin braid improves distance and sensitivity but tolerates less abrasion and heavy fishing. A thicker braid adds safety, but increases wind drag, guide noise and resistance in current.

  • Fine braid: perch, light zander, eging, small lures, accurate fishing or extra casting distance.
  • Intermediate braid: versatile lure fishing, shad, straight retrieve, vertical fishing, soft baits and hard baits.
  • Strong braid: traction, jerkbait, popper, pike, saltwater, cover or large predators.
  • PE size: common reference on Japanese braids, to compare with lb rating and real use.
  • Spool length: 135 m to 200 m for many uses, longer spools for larger reels, saltwater or multiple fills.

4-strand or 8-strand braid?

An 8-strand braid is generally rounder, smoother and quieter during casting. It improves line flow through the guides, long casts and techniques where sensitivity matters. It suits soft baits, straight retrieve, vertical fishing, light saltwater use and versatile lure fishing.

A 4-strand braid can feel rougher, but it remains useful when robustness, direct contact or stronger fishing matter more. The right choice depends not only on strand count, but also on diameter, coating, breaking strain and the type of spot being fished.

Which braid for each fish and technique?

For perch and finesse fishing, fine braid helps cast small lures, keep contact and detect discreet bites. For zander, sensitivity is the priority, especially in vertical fishing, straight retrieve, light traction or bottom contact work.

For pike, strength should increase according to lure weight, weed beds, cover and the leader used. For saltwater, current, depth, fish size and abrasion often require a stronger braid or a suitable spool length.

For traction fishing, jerkbaits, poppers or large lures, choose a reliable braid that can handle sharp animations, firm hooksets and fights close to structure.

Colour, multicolor braid and visibility

Braid colour can help track the line, control a drift or see a visual bite. A discreet colour can be reassuring in clear water, but the leader is often the key element for stealth near the lure.

Multicolor braids are useful for estimating distance, depth or sinking speed, especially in saltwater, vertical fishing, eging, metal jigging or techniques where water-layer control matters as much as strength.
