Sonars

The Sonars category brings together fish finders and accessories used to read depth, bottom structure, water temperature, drop-offs, weed beds, baitfish schools and active zones. It includes Deeper, Humminbird and Lowrance models, portable fish finders, GPS combos, Helix, Piranha Max, Hook, FishHunter and Fishin Buddy units, plus accessories such as mounts and protective covers.

A fish finder should be chosen by craft, mobility and fishing style. For bank fishing or float tube use, a compact or portable model such as Deeper or Fishin Buddy can be enough to read depth and activity quickly. On a boat, kayak or equipped float tube, a screen-and-transducer combo with GPS gives more comfort for following a drift, finding a drop-off or marking productive spots.

CHIRP, Down Imaging, Side Imaging, MEGA Imaging, SplitShot and TripleShot technologies do not all serve the same purpose. CHIRP helps give a clean view of the water column. Down Imaging shows more detail directly below the craft. Side Imaging or MEGA SI helps scan wider areas to each side. GPS is useful for saving spots, following a route or returning precisely to a zone.

Before choosing, check screen size, transducer type, GPS and mapping compatibility, power, sunlight readability, battery autonomy, mounting options for boat, kayak or float tube, and ease of transport. For vertical fishing and zander, accurate depth and structure reading matter a lot; for pike or prospecting, side view can save time.
