Stickbaits, poppers, crawlers and wakebaits are topwater lures designed to create visual strikes. They are used when predators feed close to the surface, along margins, over weed beds, on shallow flats, around visible baitfish activity or in calm low-light periods.

A stickbait is often worked with a walking the dog action, creating a side-to-side movement that imitates a fleeing baitfish. A popper pushes more water with its cupped mouth and triggers fish through sound, splash and pauses. A crawler or wakebait creates a slower, stronger surface presence, useful for fish that follow or strike at low speed.

For pike, larger models allow fishing over weeds and can trigger aggressive surface attacks. For perch, bass or asp, compact sizes are efficient for fast searching. In saltwater, stickbaits and poppers are used to target sea bass, active predators or visible feeding activity.
