Soft shads are among the most versatile lures for predator fishing. Their paddle tail pushes water and creates stronger or more subtle vibrations depending on body shape, material softness, tail size and retrieve speed.

A slim and subtle shad is useful for zander, perch or cautious fish. A bulkier and more vibrating model helps cover water, target pike or trigger active predators. Larger shads are suited to powerful fishing, bigger predators and slower presentations close to the bottom or around structure.

Rigging strongly affects how the lure behaves. On a jig head, a shad can be fished on a steady retrieve, in traction, vertically or along the bottom. As a trailer, it completes a chatterbait, spinnerbait or jig. On a texas rig, it comes through weeds, wood and heavy cover more easily.
