Stackers

Hair stackers for fly tying

Hair stackers are used to align the tips of natural fibres before tying them onto the hook. They are especially useful for producing neat wings, tails and hair bundles when working with deer hair and other hollow fibres.

How does a hair stacker work?

Place the fibres tips-down in the tube and tap the stacker lightly so gravity aligns the ends. The inner tube can then be removed carefully to retrieve an even bundle ready for tying.

Choose the right size

Match stacker size to fibre length and volume. A stacker that is too small may compress the hair, while an oversized model can be less precise with small quantities.

Get a clean result

Remove underfur and broken fibres with a suitable comb before stacking. Clean, well-prepared fibres align more easily and help create a neater finished fly.
