Hends Floatant gel is applied to the materials of a dry fly to maintain its buoyancy. Its packaging allows you to pick up a small amount with your fingertip and spread it over the areas to be treated.
CDC fly patterns require a particularly light touch. Hends recommends using only a finger that is barely coated with the product: too much product may cause the fine fibers to clump together and close up the feathering. A measured application preserves the separation of the fibers and the fly’s shape—two points to check before casting it into the water.
