The Ito Craft Caliber 85S is the 16g sinking version of this 85mm river minnow. It balances closer to the centre than the 20g model and swims with a wider tail swing on the retrieve. It suits runs where the lighter lure can reach the fish and stay at the required depth.
In moderate current, let the 85S sink as it approaches the lie before starting the retrieve. A short twitch breaks up the steady tail action and turns the lure onto its side. Aluminium foil over the flat flanks catches the light as the body rolls.
The ABS minnow weighs 16g with its size 4 C’ultiva ST-36BC trebles fitted. If a faster run keeps lifting the lure, the 20g Caliber 85HS has the same profile but carries its weight further back to help it get down again.
