The Worm Chenille is primarily used with part of the body left outside the rod. Hends lists worms, leeches, and caddis fly larvae among the possibilities; wrapping it around the hook is also possible, depending on the recipe.
Before attaching it, the ends must be sealed or glued to prevent the chenille from unraveling. This preparation makes it easier to work with the detached body. The material is 4 mm in diameter and 1 m long, and comes in several natural or bright colors.
