For an mayfly wing, choose feathers with fibers that are the right length for the body. Align the tips before securing them to avoid having to trim the wing once it’s tied. For a collar, prepare the fibers in loops, adjusting the amount based on the size of the fly. Keep the CDC loose beyond the anchor point and keep it away from the finishing wraps.
