Whiting Farms Spey Soft Hackle Chickabou combines two unique feathers for lively underwater action. Ideal for bulky fly necks and dynamic tails on small imitations.
Whiting Farms Spey Soft Hackle Chickabou is an exceptional product for fly tyers, offering two distinct feather types suitable for underwater tying. Derived from the upper and lower parts of the hen's back, each type of feather has its own specific and effective applications for different fly-fishing techniques.
SOFT HACKLE: The upper feathers are broad and webbed, ideal for large collars on flies for salmon, steelhead, sea bass and saltwater fishing. These feathers are also used coiled to create full, bold collars on salmon and steelhead flies, giving them lively movement and presence in the water.
CHICKABOU: The feathers at the narrow end resemble the marabou but are much finer and more delicate than the traditional turkey marabou. Chickabou is perfect for small streamers, leech imitations, and nymphs imitating dragonflies and damselflies. It provides an incredibly lively, undulating action, ideal for animating flies in light currents.
