Add a small amount of thinner, mix, and then check the consistency before adding more. If the varnish is too runny, it will easily seep into the fibers around the head. If it’s too thick, it will pool in droplets instead of spreading evenly between the wraps. Test it on a small area before varnishing a batch of flies. RDL is used to adjust a compatible varnish and is not applied on its own as a finish.
