Take a small bundle without disturbing the alignment of the fibers. For a tail, measure it against the body before positioning it along the shaft’s axis. A thin tuft better highlights the pheasant’s pattern than a tightly packed bundle of fibers. If you’re winding them to form the body, prepare an even underlayer and secure them with a binding. The PT5 corresponds to the tail feather, which should be distinguished from the red PT6 feathers.
