The Buzzbaits category brings together wire-frame topwater lures fitted with a prop blade. As soon as the retrieve starts, the blade churns water, creates noise, bubbles and a visible wake that can trigger aggressive predator strikes.

A buzzbait is mainly used for black bass, pike and perch. It is made to fish quickly over grass, along banks, around lily pads, wood, pontoons and other cover where a more exposed lure would snag too often.

Its strength is to produce clear topwater attacks, often right in sight of the angler. It suggests a fleeing prey or struggling frog and is usually fished on a steady retrieve, rod tip up, just fast enough to keep the blade working on the surface.

Choosing the right model depends on weight, hook size, skirt volume, blade size and noise level. A soft trailer, such as a compact shad, grub or toad-style trailer, can add bulk, stabilize the lure and slightly slow down the retrieve.
